Why I built this
When an interview invite comes, you need to know it's an interview invite.
I helped monitor my wife's dedicated residency application inbox, and I saw firsthand how difficult interview season can be. An invitation can mean a limited number of open spots — and the spot that works with the rest of your schedule may not be available for long.
The problem isn't just missing an email. It's that an email notification looks like every other email notification. When you're in clinicals, you can't keep pulling out your phone to investigate every buzz. You need to know whether the buzz is actually important.
Residency Alert gives you a distinct alert when an interview invite arrives. You're in clinicals, you get a buzz from Residency Alert, and now you know it's an interview invite — so you can decide whether you need to step out and check it.
How it works
Set it up once. Then know when the email that matters arrives.
Sign up
Enter your email and phone number at checkout. It's a one-time payment for the 2026–27 interview season.
Set up forwarding
After checkout, we'll give you a unique Residency Alert email address. You do not give us your email password or inbox login. Instead, you create a rule/filter in your own email account that forwards a copy of the residency emails you choose to monitor. We recommend forwarding only residency application/interview emails, not your entire inbox.
Get the interview alert
When a forwarded email looks like a possible interview invite, Residency Alert sends you a text. You're in clinicals, your phone buzzes, and now you know to check your email.
Your normal residency application inbox stays exactly where it is. Residency Alert receives only the copies your email rule/filter forwards to it. We do not need your email password or access to your inbox.
Residency Alert is an additional email-inbox safety net. It does not replace Thalamus or other systems your programs use to communicate with you; it is designed to catch interview-related messages that arrive in the email inbox you choose to monitor.

You don't need to pull out your phone every time an email notification appears. You don't need to wonder whether it's an interview, a routine program email, or something else entirely. Residency Alert tells you: this is the one.
Privacy
Built to be simple and limited.
You don't give us your email password.
You stay logged into your own Gmail or Outlook account. You simply create an automatic forwarding rule that sends a copy of incoming messages to your Residency Alert address.
The Residency Alert address isn't a second inbox.
You never need to log into it or check it. Think of it as a private processing address that receives the copies your email rule/filter sends so Residency Alert can identify possible interview invites.
Texts keep it simple.
The alert tells you an interview invite has arrived without putting the program name, interview details, or email contents in the text.
Email processing is handled by our infrastructure provider, so we don't claim that incoming messages disappear instantly. See the privacy details for the actual data flow and retention information.
